You are welcome to park in the immediate grounds of the hall and in the adjacent field.  However the road immediately outside the hall is narrow, had a blind bend and is unlit and we must ask that you ensure no-one parks there. Further down the road on one side only is acceptable for large parties.

We must insist that you keep the noise down.  The hall may appear isolate but there are several houses within a few yards and residents have been disturbed in the past.  Please arrange to let off any fireworks no later the 10pm.  If you have music for dancing or listening please consider the volume.  After 11pm, CLOSE all doors and windows.   NO music is allowed after 1am and all noise to be kept to a minimum.

The use of all accommodation and amenities is entirely at the Hirer’s risk and Watermillock Village Hall can accept no responsibility for any injury loss or damage arising from its use.  All damages and breakages must be immediately reported.  The Hirer will be responsible for the full replacement and repair costs of any damage or breakages caused by any person in the hirer’s party or by visitors to the hall during the period of hire.  These must be paid for prior to leaving.

We recommend that you obtain private insurance to cover any cancellation, accidental damage and breakages howsoever caused during the hire period.

The accommodation is only let for the purposes and time agreed on booking, for either camping or daily use, and no security of tenure beyond the agreed dates can be claimed.  The Hirer must be at the accommodation personally throughout the period of the let and is solely responsible for the whole party.  Under the terms of any hire, the hirer is also classed as the person responsible under the fire safety regulations.

 Payment

The current charges are set out on a separate sheet.  These charges include for a reasonable amount of oil, electricity and gas.  Should the hirer use unusual amounts of any utilities, for whatever reason, an appropriate extra charge will be payable on leaving.  Please note coal for open fire is NOT included in the hire charge.

Payment to be made as follows:

The full hire charge together with a booking form should be sent no later than 4 weeks prior to the booking day.  Cheques should be made payable to ‘Watermillock Village Hall’ and sent to: Mrs Glenda Bowman, Leeming Cottage, Watermillock. Cumbria CA11 0JR

If you are hiring the hall for a special function such as a wedding reception, party or dance and/or it involves an overnight stay, we also require a separate £50.00 ‘bond’ cheque.  Please note these cheques will not be returned (they will be destroyed if all conditions are met) and will only be cashed if there is damage or extra cleaning involved.  You will be informed of our intention prior to us cashing the cheque.

Although deposits are not normally required to confirm a booking, the full balance is required no later than 1 month before the hire commencement date. In the event that the hirer has to cancel for whatever reason within 1 month of the commencement date, a 25% or £50 maximum fee will be payable unless another booking with an appropriate deposit is accepted.

                                        FIRE SAFETY

The first priority in the event of a fire is to get everyone out of the building safely.  The fire emergency service can then be contacted either with a mobile ‘phone or using the public call box at the junction with the main (A592) road, some 200 yards from the Hall.

Any group occupying the Hall should appoint a responsible person to take charge in the event of a fire emergency.  This person should ensure that he or she knows how many are in the group and that all present are aware of the location of the exits and of the break glass alarms.  The responsible person should also ensure that the fire exit doors are unbolted while the Hall is occupied, but must also ensure that they are bolted again before leaving.

1. Alarms

The main hall, reading room, kitchen, boiler room and the passageway by the toilets and shower are equipped with smoke alarms and will sound in the event of smoke or fire.  Alternatively, if someone notices a fire before the alarm sounds, there are break glass alarms in all main areas.

2. Exits

There are clearly marked exits at both the front corners of the building and in the kitchen.  Care should be taken not to obstruct any exit when arranging tables or other furniture and equipment.  In the event of a fire use the nearest exit and gather in the field adjacent to the Hall.  Should the electricity supply fail emergency lighting will come on to facilitate finding the exits.

3. Fire Extinguishers

There are appropriate and clearly marked fire extinguishers in the main hall, reading room and kitchen.  There is also a fire blanket in the kitchen.

Before using them remember that the main priority is to evacuate everyone as quickly and safely as possible.  The main use for the extinguishers is, if necessary, to inhibit the spread of a fire for enough time to ensure safe evacuation.

Although it may sometimes be possible to extinguish minor fires with the extinguishers or the fire blanket it is dangerous to delay evacuation in order to fight a fire which is not immediately put out.
